Local SEO for a small business, in September 2026, means showing up when someone searches for your trade nearby: on Google Maps, in local results, and, more often now, in a short answer. For a clinic, an office, or a trade in Romania, the practical rule is one rule. The Google profile, the reviews, and the site you own have to state the same facts: what you do, where you work, and how someone calls you.
Pronto Marketing’s May 2026 analysis, published on 1 June 2026, using Ahrefs estimates for the US, puts the query “local SEO for small business” at about 3,500 searches a month, and rising. In their set it is the most-searched marketing tactic, ahead of “how to advertise my business” (400 a month, declining). The local-visibility cluster in the same study, which includes “how to get my business on Google” (1,100, rising), “how to get Google reviews” (1,200), “how to set up Google Business Profile” (450), and “how to make my website show up on Google” (450, rising), accounts for over 6,700 searches a month.
The figures are US estimates, not a census of Romania, and Ahrefs does not publish Google’s log. The direction still helps: the owner is asking how to appear near the customer. The page you own, with the price in writing, is on LOLOTECH websites.
What does local SEO mean for a small firm?
Local SEO is the work of matching a search that has a place. “Plumber Cluj-Napoca”, “dental clinic near me”, “lawyer in Mănăștur”.
Google’s Business Profile help page on local ranking, checked on 28 September 2026, says two things worth keeping. There is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity.
Relevance is how well the profile matches what the person searched. The right category, services in words, hours, address. “Complete solutions” is not a category.
Distance is how far the firm is from the person searching. If they do not share a location, Google uses what it knows about them. Distance is not something you buy with copy.
Popularity, which Google details under the name Prominence, is how well-known the firm is: how many sites link to it, how many reviews it has, what the rating is. More reviews and positive ratings can help. Google does not publish a number at which a position “unlocks”.
That is the frame. Directories, posts, and packages named SEO make sense after these three things are true.
Why is the Google profile not the whole of local SEO?
The profile puts you on the map. It is free and, for a firm with nearby customers, necessary. It stays Google’s. The site is the URL you own, where the customer reads after reviews, and where an answer engine has a page to cite.
In BrightLocal’s Local Consumer Review Survey 2026, published on 11 February 2026 on a panel of 1,002 US adults, 54% of consumers visit the business’s website after reading positive reviews. In the same survey, 66% do further research, and 34% are ready to buy or book. The review opens the door. The page is where the phone number is.
The same study shows that use of ChatGPT and other generative tools for local recommendations rose from 6% in the previous survey to 45%, and became the third source. Google remains the top review source: 71% of consumers use it in 2026, down from 83% in 2025. That is why you keep both: the profile and the site. The comparison, without repeating the whole guide, is in do I still need a website if I have Google Business.
What has to match on Maps and on the site?
Name, address, phone, hours, and area. In text, not in a logo and not in a PDF. The same string of digits on Facebook, on the site, and on the map. If they differ, Google sees an unreliable firm, and a chat sees two.
On the site, put these details where they can be selected: at contact, next to the map, in the footer. Link from the Google profile to your domain, not to a builder subdomain you lose with the subscription. Who owns the page, if you stay on Wix or an AI builder: best website builder for a small business in 2026.
For a trade that goes to the customer, the area written on the site is the area where you actually work. Relevance breaks when the page promises a whole county and the profile covers only the city.
How much do reviews weigh in 2026?
A lot, in the person’s decision. Google does not turn them into a price for position.
In the same BrightLocal survey of 11 February 2026, 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses. 47% will not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews. 74% look at reviews from the last three months. 31% will only use businesses with 4.5 stars or more, up from 17% in the previous survey. 68% require at least 4 stars, up from 55% in 2025.
These are consumer expectations in the US, not a published rule of the algorithm and not an average from Cluj. The direction is useful: old reviews, few reviews, or reviews with no reply weigh less for the person choosing.
Google, on the page checked on 28 September 2026, says that replying to reviews shows you value feedback, and that positive ratings can help prominence. Ask for reviews after a real job. Reply yourself, briefly, to the good ones and the bad ones. Do not buy ratings. In the same piece, BrightLocal writes that incentives for reviews break the rules of some platforms, including Google.
Where does the website fit, and what do AEO and GEO have to do with it?
The site is the piece you control. On it sit the services, the area, the hours, and the call, in sentences a person can read from a phone in a few seconds.
AEO and GEO, for a local firm, are that same text, written so an answer engine — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity — can extract a true sentence. What you do, for whom, in which city, how to reach you. The content rules are in local business website: Google AI and ChatGPT.
For a clinic or a trade that lives on calls, one page is enough: Home, Services, About, questions, Contact. Separate pages are quoted when the job is different — a shop, a second location, online booking — not in order to “do SEO”.
At LOLOTECH that is the presentation website on the websites page: €500 + VAT, once. 50% in advance, 50% on delivery. 3–5 working days after the advance and after your details, address, and photos. Included: call/WhatsApp, Google Maps, a contact form, SEO metadata, Search Console, domain + SSL, a privacy policy, one revision round. After delivery, technical ownership transfers to you. You keep the domain. Care, €29/month, is optional: hosting, updates, monitoring, and small text or photo edits, capped at 30 minutes a month.
Search Console helps discovery. It does not sell a position. The price does not include position 1 in Google and does not include a mention in ChatGPT. A shop, online booking, accounts, studio photography, and branding from scratch are not included. Market ranges, if you are comparing a freelancer or an agency: how much a small-business website costs in 2026.
When should you stop reading local SEO guides?
When the profile is verified, the details match everywhere, and you are missing the page on your domain, or the current page hides the phone number in a picture. Then the product is a page that can be cited, with a call button on mobile.

Frequently asked questions
What is local SEO for a small business in 2026?
Local SEO means being found when someone searches for your service in your area: on Google Maps, in local results, and in answers an answer engine can cite. For a clinic or a trade, that means a complete Google profile, real reviews, and a site on your domain, with the same details. A position in Google or a mention in ChatGPT is not sold with the page.
Can I pay for a better local position?
No. Google’s Business Profile help page on local ranking, checked on 28 September 2026, says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity. Distance belongs to the customer. Relevance and prominence depend on the right category, on identical facts on the site and on the map, and on real reviews.
Is a Google Business Profile enough, without a website?
The profile is necessary on the map. The site is the place you own. In BrightLocal’s survey of 11 February 2026, on 1,002 US adults, 54% of consumers visit the business’s website after positive reviews. If the page is missing, that check stops there. Google does not require a website for the listing to exist. Customers, after reviews, usually do.
What must be identical on Maps and on the site?
Name, address, phone, hours, and area, written in text. A link from the profile to your domain. If they differ, Google and a chat see two firms.
